Character & context

Understanding Coffee & Chocolate Liqueurs

Coffee and chocolate liqueurs bring familiar dessert flavours into a spirit base. Kahlúa uses coffee and rum, while Giffard's brown crème de cacao is made with cocoa extract. Creamy versions also exist, so colour and flavour names do not reliably describe texture or ingredients. Compare the roast or cocoa intensity, the base spirit and sweetness before choosing a sipping bottle or cocktail ingredient.
