Understanding Weinbrand & European Grape Brandy
Weinbrand is the German term for wine brandy. Across Europe, grape brandies outside the most famous appellations range from lighter blends to concentrated, oak-aged spirits. Italian brandy, for example, is distinct from pomace-based grappa. Country, base wine, distillation and maturation details reveal more than an assumed resemblance to Cognac.
