Understanding Gamay & Beaujolais
Gamay is the defining grape of Beaujolais, but the region's wines range well beyond early-drinking nouveau. Cru Beaujolais can have structure, savoury depth and the capacity to develop. Fermentation choices influence the fruit expression; banana-like aromas are not universal. Look at village, producer and vintage to understand the intended style.
